Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the Youth Chorus?

COYC is open to students entering grades 9 through 12 in the coming fall, as well as 8th grade boys whose voices have fully changed.

I'm not in the 9th grade yet!

Check out our Children's Chorus. (Unless you're a gentleman and no longer singing treble. Then you're in the right place!)

What kind of time commitment is required?

The COYC rehearses every Sunday from September through early May.  Rehearsals typically run from 1:45 to 4:30 pm, with additional time required of members of the COYC Chamber Ensemble. Additional rehearsals are required during performance weeks, which typically occur about six times per season.

Where does the Chorus rehearse?

Most rehearsals are held at Fairmount Temple in Beachwood. Ocassional rehearsals may take place at First Baptist Church in Shaker Heights, performance venues across greater Cleveland, and at Severance Hall.

How do auditions work?

Check out our auditions page.

How much does it cost to participate?

COYC members pay an annual tuition fee of $85, plus the cost of performance attire. Performance attire for women is a uniform concert dress that costs $65 plus shipping.  Men wear tuxedos, which are expected to be borrowed from their school or community choir program. Need-based financial assistance is available through the Chorus Office.

Where do I buy tickets?

Check out our page of performance information.

Where do I tell you what instrument I play?

You're probably looking for the Youth Orchestra.

I'm not sure whether COYC is for me.  Is there a way to "try it out?"

Sure thing! Interested students are welcome to join us for a Sunday rehearsal and experience the Youth Chorus first hand. Just contact our chorus manager for more information.

I have more questions!

No problem! Contact our office via email or at (216) 231-7374.
