AUDITION GUIDELINES

How do I audition for the
Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus?

STEP 1:

Complete the online application

Each student who wants to audition for the Youth Chorus must complete the ONLINE AUDITION APPLICATION.

STEP 2:

Prepare a solo piece

Are you a member of the 2024 Cleveland Orchestra Youth Honor Choir?

If so, you have the option of using "Sing Out, My Soul" as your audition piece instead of preparing your own solo.

Each auditionee will prepare one solo. You are welcome to prepare a classical piece, but we would be happy to hear audition songs from other genres (including musical theater and pop) as well. What is most important is that we hear you perform something that best shows who you are as a singer. Please note that a collaborative pianist will be present to play for you during your audition. Therefore, you are encouraged to practice singing with either live piano accompaniment or a recorded accompaniment track as you practice.

Need help selecting a solo piece? No problem!

If you do not have a solo that you are already preparing, visit our SOLO ASSISTANCE page. We have a variety of solo selections for different voice ranges, which include downloadable files of the music and accompaniment tracks. Please note that these pieces are suggestions only and are not required. If you are not sure what part you sing, you will also find a video tutorial from Mr. Singer entitled, "What Voice Part Should You Sing?".

STEP 3:

Schedule your audition

To book your audition time slot, please visit our SCHEDULE YOUR AUDITION page. The online booking system is user friendly and will automatically send you confirmation and reminder emails as the audition date approaches.

STEP 4:

Audition!

On the day of your audition:

  • Be well rested, hydrated, and stay calm!

  • Follow the arrival instructions that were included in your audition confirmation and reminder emails.

  • Bring 3 copies of your solo piece with you (one for yourself, one for the directors, and one for the collaborative pianist).

Students are typically informed the result of their audition via email within one week of the audition date.

If you have trouble completing any part of the audition process, please do not hesitate to contact us at tlogan@clevelandorchestra.com. We will be happy to assist you.
