ABOUT THE
YOUTH CHORUS
The Youth Chorus is open to students who will be entering grades 9 through 12 in the fall, as well as 8th grade students with changing voices.
Choristers are selected through auditions.
The Youth Chorus performs annually
with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, and is regularly called to perform with The Cleveland Orchestra
at Severance Music Center and Blossom Music Center. Additionally, the Youth Chorus performs at other community concerts and events each season.
The ensemble rehearses on Sunday afternoons between September and April. Each season varies slightly to accommodate the performance schedule.
The Youth Chorus is committed to fostering an organizational culture of diversity and inclusion.
MEET OUR DIRECTORS
Daniel Singer
Director, Youth Chorus
Daniel Singer joined the choral conducting staff of the Cleveland Orchestra in 2012 as Assistant Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus. He was promoted to Assistant Director of choruses and Director of the Youth Chorus with the start of the 2018-19 season.In addition to his responsibilities in Cleveland, Mr. Singer is the Robert Page Music Director for The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, known as the “chorus of choice” for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Singer holds degrees in music education and conducting from Northwestern University and Michigan State University.
Devon Steve
Assistant Director, Youth Chorus
Devon Steve has served as the Assistant Director of The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus since 2022. He is an alumnus of The Youth Chorus, singing from 2011 to 2013. He is currently a baritone in The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus.
Mr. Steve received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN) and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Simpson College (Indianola, IA).
AUDITIONS
The Youth Chorus is open to students entering grades 9 through 12 in the Fall, as well as 8th grade students with changing voices.
Auditions for the 2024-25 season will take place on April 20 and May 19, 2024. Applicants will be asked to complete the following:

Sing a song that best showcases your voice. We will provide piano accompaniment. Please arrive prepared with 3 copies of your sheet music.

Short exercises to assess vocal agility and skills
PERFORMANCES
The Youth Chorus performs annually with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra,
and is regularly called to perform with The Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Music Center and Blossom Music Center. Additionally, the Youth Chorus performs annually at other
community events, many of which are free to the public.
