RECORD YOUR SOLO

Solos must be classical or art song; folk song arrangements are also acceptable. Broadway or pop tunes should NOT be used for your audition. Suggestions for solos may be found on our SOLO ASSISTANCE page. Please note that these are only, and are not required. The songs posted here are examples of appropriate classical/folk pieces.
If recording a solo from our website, play either the "accompaniment" or "with melody" track in the background and sing along (please do NOT sing along to any reference recordings from YouTube).
If singing a solo that is not included on our website, you’ll need to be able to play a recording of the accompaniment, perhaps created by your school teacher or private instructor, to accompany your singing. Of course, if you happen to live with someone who can accompany you live, it will make the recording a bit easier.
In all cases, you do NOT have to memorize your solo, and may use the music while recording. Be sure we can hear you over the accompaniment, and if possible, record your video in a well-lit space so we can also see you perform this piece.
CREATE YOUR VIDEO
1. Please begin your recording by saying your name and grade.
2. Solo of your choice. Please announce the name and composer of the solo you will be singing.
SUBMIT YOUR VIDEO
Once you are satisfied with your recording, you’ll need to upload it to YouTube. Don’t worry, you’ll make your video “unlisted” so that only people who have the link to the video can view it. An unlisted video will not appear in any of YouTube's public spaces (such as search results, your channel, or the Browse page).
How to Make a YouTube Video ‘Unlisted’
An unlisted video is a different type of private video. If you do not have a YouTube account, please make one.
1. Sign in to YouTube.
2. At the top right, select “Create” (the icon that looks like a video camera) then “Upload video”.
3. Select the file you’d like to upload.
4. Title the video with your first and last name.
5. To publish your video now: Select Publish now and choose your video’s privacy setting - “unlisted”

The final step is to schedule your interview with the Youth Chorus Directors. Interviews are currently being scheduled on

When scheduling your interview, you will be required to submit your video link. If you have any issues submitting your video link, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the interview, the directors will want to hear more about your singing background and why you are interested in COYC. They will also guide you through some simple vocal exercises so they can hear your range and assess pitch-matching ability.
