How to Audition for the Children's Choruses
Complete the Online Application & Upload a Student Photo
Each student who wants to audition for the Children's Choruses must complete the ONLINE AUDITION APPLICATION.
At the end of the application, you will be required to upload a picture of your child, which will be used for office purposes only.
The picture should focus on the student's face and may be taken informally with a smartphone. Pictures may not exceed 10 MB
and should be in one of the following formats: JPG, PNG, or GIF. You will not be able to submit the application without the photo, so please have it ready to upload.
Schedule Your Child's Online Audition
Auditions for the 2020-21 season will take place, via the Zoom video conferencing platfrom on Saturday, September 12, and Monday, September 14, and have now been extended to Thursday, September 17 due to high demand. To book your child's audition time slot, please visit our SCHEDULE YOUR AUDITION page. The online booking system is user friendly and will automatically send you a Zoom meeting invitation, via email, after you have selected the audition date and time. Additionally, you will receive automatic confirmation and reminder emails as the audition date approaches.
Prepare for the Audition
Everything your child needs to practice for their audition is located on our PREPARE FOR YOUR AUDITION page.
You can download copies of the audition pieces, which your child is allowed to use during their audition. Piano and voice practice recordings are provided, so that your student can become familiar with each piece. Once your child is ready, they should practice singing with the Audition Recording tracks. They will use these same tracks during their actual audition.
You will also be able to download sample rhythmic and melodic sight-reading passages. Don't worry if the sight-reading passages seem confusing to you and/or your child. The directors will explain what to do during the audition, and they recognize that many auditionees do not have any sight-reading experience.
Materials to Have Ready on the Audition Date
Before the audition begins, please make sure your child has the items listed below.
Contact the Chorus Office at email@example.com if you have trouble accessing any of these materials.
Make sure you have downloaded the Zoom video conferencing platform. To download Zoom, visit https://zoom.us/.
Ideally, use a computer (with a built-in camera or external webcam) and headphones to join the Zoom audition. If that is not possible, using a tablet or smartphone is acceptable.
Sheet music of each audition piece (unless your child prefers singing the pieces from memory)
Online access to the Audition Recordings, so your child can sing with the piano accompaniment for "My Country, 'Tis of Thee," and find the first few notes of "America the Beautiful" before singing it a cappella (without accompaniment). If necessary, the directors can also send a link to the audio files during the audition, via the Zoom chat box.
Students are typically informed the result of their audition via email within one week of the audition date.
